Ugh, I feel like a zombie. Complete with nasty dark circles under my eyes. Maybe this means I won't have to make a costume for Saturday. Yay.

The story of the Straussians. The neo-con movement of today is apparently derived from these teachings. The idea seems to be that a select few will embrace the ideals of the Greek philosophers, while those unworthy will be placated by a system of religion mixed with patriotic fables. The article brings up a good question - why are they trying to "democratize" the Middle East, then? It must be because the Ayatollah doesn't recognize the Platonic forms. Either that or the Straussians favor Christianity as the placator of choice... Or maybe the Muslim world is more virtuous because they don't have sex on TV, therefore the real virtuous democracy can arise there? Who knows.

It's probably all mixed up with the America as sole-superpower idea, where America is the strongest power yet is surrounded by deadly threats and is constantly betrayed by its allies (why were those Republicans so mad at the French if they were really cheese-eating surrender monkeys? THIS ARMY OF COWARDS HAVE BETRAYED US BY NOT BURDENING US WITH THEIR LAMENESS!)
