Let me preface this by ranting: I hate Democrats and wish they would all die in a fiery, um, fire as much as anybody else. Mainly because I sent them $15 in 2004 and they misspelled my name on their stupid cheap paper membership card, but also because they are terminally weak and invite beatings by their very existence. But since this is one of the only examples of Democrats standing up for something in recent memory, I must defend the party that I sent money to and say that no, Democrats are not degraded race-baiters who are following a neoconservative lead. At least not in opposing the sale of Americas ports to the United Arab Emirates.

One of the misconceptions here is that the Democrats are a bunch of fraidycats who are blocking the Bush administration, a bunch of open-minded free traders who have read their David Brooks and Thomas Friedman and would never, never stoop so low as to use racial fears to aid their cause! Well, does anybody remember the lead-up to the Iraq war? One of the big selling points of the war was that Saddam Hussein and Iraq were connected to the terrorists who caused 9/11. In fact, Bush kept implying that Iraq was involved well after many news outlets broke the news that, hey, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Why? Hey, they all look the same, dont they? Oooh, those brown people! They must all have terrorism in their hearts, right? Of course, now Iraq is a terrorist breeding ground on the verge of civil war, their people and our soldiers are dying every day, so I guess that proves Bush right.

After 9/11, there was a lot of fear Im not going to call it hysteria, because it was justified that terrorists were going to come in through cars and buses and ships and generally use the transport system to blow up things at will. Shipping was a huge concern, especially because terrorists had previously used boats against the U.S.S. Cole.

Now it turns out that Bush wants to sell ports in major U.S. cities including New York, site of the 9/11 attacks! to the United Arab Emirates. Turns out that the rulers of the UAE arent just generally Evil and Bad, like the former regime in Iraq, but recognized the Taliban, funneled money to terrorists, wouldnt help track down Osama bin Ladens cash flow, and so on. Genuine Anti-American Activities.

None of this necessarily means that if the Dubai deal goes through, our ports will necessarily be less safe. But any sensible person would think twice. And after Iraq got turned into a wave pool of blood because Saddam put a painting of George Bush the Elder on his porch in place of a doormat, it seems a little unfair that a Middle Eastern country that actually was involved with terrorists gets to run Americas ports. Looks like the difference between a terrorist and a friend has a lot to do with how much money you can provide one George W. Bush. Surprise, surprise.

As far as Im concerned, Bush deserves all the hate for this that he gets. First of all, why is he going around selling ports to any foreign country without a security check? Second of all, he sold the war on they all look the same, then cries racist! when other people get freaked out by the scary brown people. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
