Had a lovely visit to Chicago to see K. which I will detail elsewhere. We spent most of our time that we did not spend trying to justify my American Studies degree (looking for first ever McDonald's, shopping) watching movies*. Which consisted of various Bollywood/Bollywood-esque Jane Austen knockoffs and "Jeeves and Wooster the TV series" (HOORAY COLONIALISM). I'm going to write fanfiction about the latter, where World War II happens and everybody mocks the characters for being too stupid to recognize that Nazis took over their resort town and gassed all the other inhabitants. Oh, that actually happened.

Whatever, YOU CAN'T JUDGE ME* because the people of today will probably be judged harshly for betraying the civil liberties of others while doing stupid things like watching "The Apprentice." Unless you have a more right wing point of view in which case the traitor here is not "people who don't care about plight of indefinitely held detainees" but "Susan Sarandon."

Anyway I also have now seen "Choking Hazard," a Czech zombie film - it takes about 15 minutes to get to the zombies because they have to get through a philosophical lecture first. But afterwards various human organs get splattered across floors and walls, and a definition of fruitarianism is given as well. The moral is not to go into an abandoned hotel in the Czech forest for a philosophy lecture.

* My roommate is crazed about prime time television. So much so that she has the full 3 hours of prime time scheduled out for each weekday. And if she is in on a weekend, she will invariably watch the Lifetime movie that is 3 hours long because of endless commercials for feminine products and other Lifetime movies, or a tape her mom sends her that contains other tv shows that she can't get in my HBO/Showtime-free apartment. And she gets VERY CRANKY if you pull her away from her entertaining 3-hour showing of "Erin Brockovich" so all in all there are very few times I can put a movie on. She also gets upset if the movies are foreign, because the language sounds nasty.
